Success breeds Success for Works program

We’re getting phone calls from an increasing number of our friends at Waco’s non-profits who would like us to take over their landscaping maintenance.

They are so grateful for the work we do for them on their routine and crisis facilities care that they are asking us to add it to the list of services we provide.

It’s a perfect opportunity to expand the good work that we are already doing with the non-profits and keep 2 to 3 guys busy full-time in the works program.

So why are we telling you about it? We don’t have the proper equipment to make it happen. We are trying to make do with some of our personal equipment, but to do landscape maintenance on this scale will require 3 additional tools.

We need a new commercial weed eater, a new commercial-grade riding mower and an 8 foot trailer. The job calls for a mower that will be able to run reliably for over 20 hours per week all season long.

We estimate the cost of these tools to be $5000.

We’re asking if you would like to be a part of providing these tools to help us improve our efforts to support the non-profits and also the guys in the Works program. The usual methods apply (check to MannaWorks or use our “Donate” button). You can put “Mower” in the memo field of your choice.

PS: Roy says the biggest donor can have the mower named for them.

Thank You for your support in 2011!

Dear Friends,

As 2011 comes to a close we want to thank everyone who is supporting us at MannaWorks. When a local non-profit director says, “I couldn’t have gotten through this past year without MannaWorks,” she is also saying, “Thank You” to you.

Because donations to area non-profits have decreased due to the economy, and the number of people that they have to help has increased,  it makes MannaWorks’ goal of helping them save money even more important.  Every bit of money we can save a non-profit allows them to be able to help more of the people Jesus called “the least of these”.  This past year we were able to help over 50 different non-profits and have saved them 48% off of what they would have paid for upkeep and repair projects on their buildings if they had not used MannaWorks. A State of the Union address for Mannaworks

MannaWorks is still going strong, thanks to God.  We pick up new clients almost every week including Christian Women’s Job Corps, Kids and Company, Meals and Wheels and World Hunger Relief just to name a few.  It seems like Kevin is always running somewhere to help somebody. Continue reading

A reminder from the kids

A week ago we had the pleasure of working with a group of college kids from the University of Northern Colorado. These kids were here spending their spring break going through Mission Waco’s poverty simulation and helping MannaWorks with projects at the Ark and Meyer Center for Mission Waco. They did a tremendous job. It was great to get to know them over the week.
Each one of them had their own reasons for coming on the spring break trip but the underlying theme was they wanted to try to help the people that Jesus helped. Continue reading

What could happen?

The Mind of Roy

I was listening to a pastor this week who told a story about how in 2001 the City Manager of Waco called him wanting to know if he could use their church for a meeting. The man wanted to invite as many church leaders as possible and ask them why they don’t do more to help the people who need help in the city. Here is this City Manager looking at the plight of things in Waco saying, “Well, why don’t the people who profess to be Christians do what they are supposed to do and help more of the the people that Jesus helped?” He believed that the city could be transformed if we Christians actually do what the Bible says. Already completed the first year…

Friends:

Roy Speaks

As 2010 comes to a close I look back over this last year and I am amazed that it has been a year already since we started this ministry called Mannaworks. In a time when many non-profits are struggling to keep going due to negative effects of the economy on their contributions, God has seen fit to keep Mannaworks around. Because the economy has affected so many non-profits Mannaworks has been called on even more to stretch what little money these non-profits have for their facilities. We have had the pleasure to help over 40 different non-profits, saving these organizations hundreds of thousands of dollars that they can then use to help the “least of these” instead of spending it on their buildings.

Sure, we have been able to help the nonprofits like we wanted to, but what I have been amazed about the most is what God has taught us along the way. Continue reading

An Introduction to MannaWorks’ new site.

Thanks for visiting us at our web site.

We’re grateful for your support and encouragement and have made changes to help us stay connected.

We’ll be posting blog articles on this site, especially “The Mind of Roy” and giving you a place to provide feedback. This web site will also have photos from some of our activities. Feel free to comment on anything we post here.

We’ve also launched a facebook page, you can find it here.

Our email letters will continue, but will probably have less content as we get used to using these other forms of contact.
